The EWH Project
This site is about your weather, your future, and what you can do about it.
Scientists predict more floods, fires and storms as the planet warms, and Australia’s emergency management system relies on volunteers when extreme weather events hit our neighbourhoods.
Problem is – our 500,000 strong volunteer base is aging just when we need them most.
This project will enable young emergency volunteer stars to reach out to their peers across social networks to inspire them to join in at home, in their communities, and ultimately with our fantastic emergency volunteer agencies such as the Rural Bushfire Brigades, the State Emergency Services (SES), St John Ambulance and the Red Cross.
As this force for community support grows, Green Cross Australia will work with everyone to inspire devastated communities to rebuild green.
If you like what you discover here, share it on your Facebook, follow our Twitter, check out our YouTube and Flickr, and start blogging, texting and sending in your extreme weather photos and videos.
To kickstart the network we found five amazing young Aussies who are into emergency volunteering big time – and you can follow their journeys on facebook etc.
Take a tour of the Science of Climate Change, which was developed by young volunteers at the CSIRO to help you understand why greenhouse emissions are creating a future of more frequent and more severe weather events.
Then find out what you can do to protect yourself, your family, your pets, your school and your community through the storms, fires, floods and cyclones of a warmer world. You will develop new skills and make new friends to boot.
After severe weather hits, lots of homes and even whole neighbourhoods are devastated. Green Cross Australia has a big vision to support extreme weather affected communities as rebuilding begins - and it all starts with Flowerdale, Victoria. By joining or supporting our Extreme Weather Team you can help turn the weather around by inspiring people to rebuild green.
So get with it. Log your readiness for the next big event and get your friends involved.
Its your weather – your future! So step up - get skilled - and get prepared!
