As most of you may have heard, tropical Cyclone Laurence is currently passing over the Pilbra region of northern Western Australia.
The cyclone is still causing widespread damage to structures but now the concern is the great deal of flooding that is occuring due to a large amount of rainfall from the cyclone.
The cyclone did reach a category 5 rating but has now been downgraded to a category 2.
There are no reports of serious injury as a result of the cyclone so far, but we're not out of the woods yet.
FESA and the State Emergency Service play a massive role in Extreme Weather such this. FESA updates the alerts that are circulated to the public and also, along with the SES, handle the clean up after the cyclone has passed.
As far as St John Ambulance First Aid WA, our participation from the Perth end is not large for this cyclone. Due to the small amount of injuries, there is no need at this stage to send up any extra volunteers to the area. Local medical facilities are able to cope for the time being.
I have uploaded some youtube videos of some cyclone footage.
Bye for now,
Zoe
