No news is good news!!! Quiet on the operational front, we did have roughly 8 jobs last weekend due to the high winds and rain. But these days that feels like nothing in comparasion to what we have had recently.
The Footscray Unit is going back to replenishing stocks, getting vehicles serviced and continuing with General Rescue training.
Monday I attended the CEO visit at Central Region HQ, Mary gave a presentation on the cultural audit and discussed other matters relating to leadership training and what the service hopes to strive for over the first few years.
Two weekends ago (yes i am abit behind), a number of Unit members spent their time at various PR events. Some of us also, were spending our weekend cleaning out the workshop and the shed again...seems like its never ending but it has to be done. Our new Nissan Navara is still waiting for decals and communications equip and i hope to have to out next Monday for our skills maintenance night, so all members can have a look and feel of the new vehicle.
1st PR event was the famous Seddon festival which had a very poor turn out due to the rain and wind.
Smile!
Mummmyyyy.....its raining & i thought this orange thing would keep me dry!
Oh my....i thought you said you were 6yrs old!
For one beautiful afternoon I knew what it was to be a grandmother. Subjugated, yet honored.
2nd PR event was the St Maragerts Primary School Fete. I dropped by for a sticky beak in the afternoon, and again the weather wasen't treating the locals well. But there was a jumping castle and slide...which makes allll the difference!
Whatta doin to mya boata!?
Me, nephew, sis...his getting alittle annoyed with this helmet chinstrap...now you know how we feel with them on little man!
Last weekend (23rd March) we held a GR training day for some of our newer members and refresher for the existing training group. We were able to cover off 4 modules from the GR package- Anchors & Holdfasts, Pulleys & Winches, Hydralics & Casuality Handling.
Group 1 (The Bandicoots) setting up a 3 2 1 Holdfast
Group 2 cleaverly named the Cumquats (i have the David Dhu to blame for that) getting instruction from Tucek on Hydraulics.
You can do it.....squeeze one out for Footscray!
This is my cribbing pile. There are many like it but this one is mine. My cribbing pile is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my cribbing pile is useless. Without my cribbing pile I am useless. I must use my cribbing pile true. I must build it straighter than my enemy, who is trying to build another cribbing pile.....
The Brandicoots have recently become full members..yay. I feel like quoting Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (except with slightly different words from the actual movie!)
Today, you people are no longer probies. Today, you are full members. You're part of a brotherhood. From now on until the day you die, wherever you are, every SES volunteer is your brother or sister. Most of you will go to rescue jobs. Some of you may not come back. But always remember this: you rock. That's what we're here for. But the SES lives forever. And that means YOU live forever.
Word i must put into my conversations more often...'BRILLANT!'
Peace out!
