Would you trust this man to cut your tree down?

Sunday 24th January 2010

While i was undertaking the Sustainability study in the Cinque Terre we were required to do a presentation in one of the issues faced in the area. I chose invasive species (Maritime Pine) taking over the native Oak & Chestnut trees. However, some people were discussing the concept of bringing in other people into the area (from all over the world) to help cut the Maritime Pine down so that native species could be replanted. This is fine, but imagine taking on this fellow gentleman to help cut down some of the trees........

...food for thought?

SES who???

Put your hands in the air if you have NO IDEA who the SES is? Chances are if you dont, you probably wouldn't be reading this....The Unit just did a tin shake in the Bourke St Mall yesterday & hardly anyone knew who or what the SES is...which is a problem. HOWEVER the people that did know us were from interstate, mostly QLD. Good on ya QLD!!!!! Well...we did our bit to educate the people of Melbourne, and interstate/overseas people travelling through Bourke St Mall post tennis action.

I stumbled across something useful on the web:

International Year of Biodiversity

The United Nations proclaimed 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity, and people all over the world are working to safeguard this irreplaceable natural wealth & reduce biodiversity loss. This is vital for current & future human wellbeing. The International Year of Biodiversity is a unique opportunity to increase understanding of the vital role that biodiversity plays in sustaining life on Earth, & to stop the loss.

Visit http://www.panda.org/about_our_earth/biodiversity/  to view a 3 minute video that explains biodiversity, why it is important, and what 2010 as the Year of Biodiversity is trying to achieve...

Talks about some of the worst environmental blunders of all time, in very plain English; includes wasting water, overfishing, toxins & pollutions, invasive species & global warming. According to the sites survey, people feel that global warming is seen as the mankinds greatest environmental mistake. Well if you consider all of the above just mentioned, it all contributes to global warming, not just one thing!!!
