The fantastic VICSES is again...bracing for ANOTHER extreme weather event!!!

Sunday 1st March 2008

According to a good volunteer friend of mine, these recent severe weather events, though greatly testing on our emergency services, will only make them STRONGER!!

I agree....HOWEVER....we still need to replenish our very tired and exhausted emergency services volunteers. To pass on all that great knowledge, experience and skill that current volunteers have to those waiting to assist is a fantastic gift to the world & future generations!!!

No rest for volunteers again with the recent storm warning from BOM:

Severe Weather Warning for Tuesday 3rd March 2009
for people in the All districts of Victoria.

Issued at 3.20 pm EDT on Sunday 1 March 2009.

Weather Situation

A strong cold front will cross the State on Tuesday, moving into the far southwest late morning, central districts late afternoon and will move through far eastern parts of the State Tuesday night.

Northerly winds are expected to increase to average 60 to 80km/h ahead of the front with gusts in excess of 100km/h. Winds over Alpine areas are expected to average 70 to 95km/h with gusts around 120km/h.

Winds are expected to shift west to southwesterly following the front and will initially be of similar strength although some easing is expected Tuesday night.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Keep clear of fallen power lines.
  • Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road.
  • For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

Thank our lucky stars that Friday didn't turn out to be another Black one. But we might not be so lucky in the future considering the rise in Extreme Weather Events, which in the face of SO much evidence is linked to climate change.
