The Unit had its 3rd successful (organised) information night on Tuesday. There were plenty of vols from the Unit who came along & helped set up the shed, projector, nibbles and many other things. We were not quite sure how many people were going to turn up. Even though we had 70 people confirmed for the night, we knew that were weren't going to get anywhere near that figure. 27 people turned up & very lucky we did set up the shed for the presentation rather then our tiny co-mingled training room, with its mis-matched chairs, and a couch that occupies the corner that people are always drawn to even though you can't see the people at the front when you sit in it! Thats probably why its so popular during the Unit meetings.
We had 25 very eager people who put their names down for an interview next week. Sadly we had 2 people who had been trying to get into the Unit for nearly 2 years! Due to some circumstances those people were forgotten along the way when the recruitment position at the Unit was moved around. Positive- they have finally been given the opportunity to apply.
Thanks to Chris D for his makeshift seating, which comprised of 9 rolls of 12mm rope, with 3 very long planks of wood. Some people were very smart & grabbed a sandbag before sitting on the wood, to ease the pain of a possible splinter! Big thank you to Emily for putting together a fabulous presentation at short notice..... this has been in the pipeworks for many years & Emily was able to finish it while ONLY being in the recruitment role for 2 weeks! Another big thank you to Tucek as he helped me deliver the presentation. I was extremely sick that night & had been a few days before. I managed to pump myself full of drugs and get to the Unit to be numb enough to talk for 10mins, but then requested Tuceks help as my voice & body failed me. My throat infection had gotten the better of me that night. I went home, very exhausted and in worse shape! But its all for the love of the service. You put in effort & you get out 2x effort.
Some photos from the night to come!!! But for now...lets sing....
*DJ breaks into a solo*
Hey you, get in to your overalls
Who me?
Yes you, get in to your overalls
Woooooooooh. Wah! Hey!
Who's that VOLUNTEER
Coming down the road
Who's that VOLUNTEER
Who's that VOLUNTEER
Walking through my door
What's the score
I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey VOLUNTEER
Step in your boots
I'll be your non-stop rescuer
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your rescuer
Get outta my dreams
Get in to your overalls
Get outta my dream
Get in to the back seat
Get in to your car
Beep Beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get in to my life
Ooooooh
Oh I said hey (Hey) you (You)
Get in to your overalls
Oh baby
Orange man
Let me take your wheel
Smooth volunteer operator
Touch my bumper (Bumper)
Hey, let's make a deal
Make it real
Like a road runner
Coming after you
Just like a hero
Outta the blue
I'll be your non-stop rescuer
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your hero!
*chorus again*
hehe =) The end (i am very sure your all delighted that i am done!)
