Well it has been quite a while since I last wrote a blog.
The end of the bushfire season tends to come as a relief to most people.
This also brings some welcome down time which resulted in me going no where near the bushfire shed for over a month, doing no courses or hazard reduction burns and therefore having nothing to blog about.
Now we find ourselves only a few months out from the next bushfire season (seems like the last just ended) which means there are new members going out too the various brigades around Canberra.
As of yet I have only met one of my brigades 5 or 6 new members. Probably most encouraging is the fact that 2 or 3 of these new members are under 25. This is one of the main objectives of the EWH scheme.
Training is not far off starting again which is a one night a week thing.
One other aspect to being a volunteer are the 'behind the scenes' roles you can be apart of.
For example the brigade is run like a company with a President, Secratary Treasurer, Captain of the Brigade and General Committee Members.
I am a General Committee Member and we have monthly meetings to discuss various brigade issues and decide the directions the brigade heads in.
Volunteering doesn't just have to be about the 'action'.
Hopefully I can have something to write about a bit more often.
