Finally I have some time to get my arse into gear with the Extreme Weather Heroes campaign! thank god for or aus day long weekend.
Well what can I say? I've been super busy since the great EWH briefing weekend at the Gold Coast.
I went back to work for one day then I was off to just near Bundanoon in NSW for a three day deployment for a RAFT (remote area fire team) fire.
As a member of the ACT RAFT crew we deal with fires that aren't accessible by vehicle. this usually involves very steep terrain, difficult hiking, dry fire fighting (no water) and helicopter work.
The three days were an awesome experience with plenty of helicopter work.
We were winched up or down from the chopper three times form 120-130 feet and once from a 70m rock ledge at about 90 feet.
The terrain was between 40 and 60 deg and the temps were at about 40 so it was hard work all round but great fun. I have uploaded heaps of videos to YouTube - but here is just one to prove it was me!
There has been a few little fires around town in the past week but nothing big. went to a car/grass fire on the 18th which was a good fun little grass fire.
There is also some seriously hot weather and storms around at the moment. They will hopefully bring some decent rain....
