Well it has been a very hot week here in Canberra with two Red (extreme fire danger) days to end the week.
I attended two small fires this week. The first was approx 20 by 40 metres.
It was my first time as a driver attending a fire under lights and sirens which was awesome.
We were the first on scene and the fire was going quite well with flame height of around 2m + in parts.
This fire was made all the more interesting as it was next to the railway line and at one stage a train towing empty fuel tanks that were giving off vapour wanted to pass.
Thankfully we were able to get it stopped a safe distance away.
The second fire was yesterday afternoon and was only about 6 x 10 metres. this fire was most likely started by a fault with some powerlines.
Because of the location, under powerlines and next to an electricity substation, it could have been a very dangerous situation so we had to wait untill clearence from the electricity company before we could get to work.
None of this really seems important when you look at the absolute devistation and loss of life in Victoria.
The ACT last night sent 90 firefighters to Victoria and there is a chance that a second deployment later in the week.
