Update on the Lennox Head Tornado

On Wednesday 3rd June 2010 Red Cross volunteers were activated in response to a waterspout (tornado) that caused damage to several properties in Lennox Head, NSW. Two volunteers attended the evacuation centre and provided personal support to the many shocked residents of Lennox Head. On Thursday Red Cross volunteers from the Alstonville, Ballina and Lennox Heads teams undertook Outreach, visiting damaged properties providing personal support and information on resources available for recovery. On Friday and Saturday the Outreach operation was extended to undamaged residences. Over three days, Red Cross volunteers visited 200 homes. Outreach has now ended in Lennox Head and Red Cross volunteers were STOOD DOWN on Sunday 6 June 2010.

A severe weather warning was issued for the North Coast of NSW and it was feared that heavy rain would cause flooding along the Mid-North and Hunter coasts. As a result Red Cross placed all coastal teams in this area on STANDBY. Thankfully flooding did not occur and teams were STOOD DOWN on Sunday 6 June 2010.
