After an awesome Extreme Weather Heroes training weekend up in the wet and windy Gold Coast a couple of weeks ago, it’s time to get back to writing blogs and educating the masses on emergency preparedness.
With the continuing risk of severe weather and risk of losing even basic infrastructure like electricity and water it pays to be self-sufficient even if just for a few days.
The Red Cross, and other emergency services organisations, have developed emergency response plans for your home. These plans cater for both stay-at-home emergencies and evacuation emergencies.
A stay-at-home emergency might be a black-out, local road closures due to flooding or storms etc. Whereas as an evacuation emergency might include flooding or storms that had affected your property, fire or Aliens attacking.
The Red Cross has developed a REDiPlan which are 4 easy steps so you can prepare yourself and household in case of an emergency. It describes how to prepare oneself with such things as a supply of medication, clothing, food and water. A lot of people have devoted a lot of time and energy to develop the REDiPlan and can explain it a lot better then I can in such a short blog.
