The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) which held its 28th meeting on 7 December 2009 in Brisbane discussed many issues over health reform, training and also very importantly National Disaster Resilience.
COAG recognised not only the roles of government, at the national, state and local levels had in disaster preparedness, but also big business, individuals and volunteer organisations.
For the COAG communique go to page 22-23.
Coupled with the recent news article from Queensland's Courier Mail about our complacency regarding emergency preparedness it highlights the need for everyone to develop their own disaster kit. The Red Cross is rolling out diasaster-kit books that highlights how one can prepare and what one should have in their own kit, both stay at home and evacuation kits.
I hope this helps some.
