Ben is with the Red Cross from Sydney. So depending on which direction you're facing he's either up or down from you. He volunteers in the Emergency and Youth Services fields handing out bandaids and bandages, educating the kiddies in drug awareness and helping with personal support when you're up to your neck in water or your roof has collapsed.
Normally Ben is a robotic engineer so is as nerdy as you get. He has a habit of being undressed on the dance floor at weddings and repeatedly losing his eyebrows lighting the BBQ... so you might take care with this one.

Red Cross
Motivation for joining
Putting into practice what I've learnt at the Red Cross after doing a simple first aid course, meeting new people and helping the community. After being involved in a few natural disasters and realising I was woefully underprepared, I thought it would be a great idea if I could do more training and help out as opposed to being the one in the corner wondering what to do. Red Cross has such a great reputation both in Australia and overseas that being part of them is a great experience.
'Real' job
Research and Development Engineering Director. I design electronic products that are also environmentally responsible. This results in developing intelligent-controlled, low-power consumption, low-component number and long-life products.
Thoughts on climate change and extreme weather
The world community collectively needs to get behind the climate change movement in order to prevent both human and economic turmoil. Without change the world will become a more uncertain place to live.
Likes
Being outdoors - 4WDing, bushwalking, camping, and rock-climbing. Volunteering for the Red Cross.
Dislikes
People who just don’t care about anything apart from themselves.
Aspirations
To drive around the world visiting as many random back-country places as possible.
To wear a cape and undies on the outside.
Proudest moment
Holding some girl's hair back as she threw-up all over me when doing first aid volunteering. Of course there was also graduating with the Bachelor of Engineering and then a MBA but the girl throwing up is much more memorable.
Biggest learning experience
Learning how to interact with people from different walks of life under sometimes very stressful situations.
