On the 20th of February, I was presented with the amazing opportunity to meet the Minister for Climate Change and Water, Penny Wong, in a formal follow up to the National People's Assembly on Sea Level Rise which was held last year (for more information, check out the Green Cross Australia website).
I went with Mara, the CEO of Green Cross Australia, Kristin and Scott, two members of the Citizens Jury, who prepared policy recommendations which were presented to the Minister. Kristin made recommendations about capacity building in the region, and Scott spoke about the impact sea-level rise would have on communities in the Torres Strait.
I was there as Extreme Ayla and got 3 whole minutes (!!!) to talk to her about the Extreme Weather Heroes project. She seemed really interested in the project and appreciative of the work Green Cross has been doing.
I got a sweet photo...
I come out of the meeting with a real sense of achievement and purpose. I was also really honoured to be in the company of so many intelligent and impressive women! (and you too, Scott).
After a delicious haloumi salad and some happy-snaps, we met Ben at the Foxtel studios to record a segment about EWH on the Eco Report on SkyNews.
That was pretty fun, but I got nervous and fumbled my way through some parts.
But overall, it was a really awesome day. I feel like we're getting the message out to more and more people, and that it's being really well received. Yay!!!
