Contrary to what my previous blogs would indicate, (what, with all the galavanting with the media), I do actually participate in group SES training sessions on Monday nights.
Last Monday, the 2nd, was particularly exciting because Western Group finally got the new truck! Previously only talked about in myth and legend, the seven seater Iveco was delivered to group... and was well impressive.
Peter, Western group leader, and a couple of other group members designed the truck themselves and dedicated massive amounts of time and effort to making the truckdream a reality. Peter told me it was designed to carry all the equipment needed to do jobs safely, and that it is the first of its kind for Queensland!
Here's a pic, and there's more on flickr...
While other members did their CPR recertification, we got to play with the truck.
That's Ryan, Michael, Sheree, Rosalynde, Brad, Aaron and Andrea in front of the truck.
The next few weeks of training are gonna be dedicate to learning how to participate in a Rescue Operation - last night we learned about General Rescue, the following 2 weeks we're learning Casualty Handling and then onto Ropes, Lashings and Holdfasts.
Should be really interesting - and hopefully I'll get some more photos!
For now we're on standby for possible deployment to cyclone-affected areas up north - but it seems Hamish is just loitering offshore.
Bye!!!
PS A big thanks to Western Group for putting up with me being the annoying kid with the camera :-)

Thats soooo exciting!!! So much fun when you get a new vehicle to play with. Can't wait for our Nissan Navara to be all done up with stickers, radios & sirens!
