First Blog - Kings Tides Hammer Qld Coast

Hi – good time to post my first blog with king tides hitting the coast and making life difficult for lifesavers and lifeguards across Queensland.

There’s been plenty of coverage on TV stations of the extreme conditions with water in plenty of places it wouldn’t normally be and the increased water movement makes beach and surf conditions more hazardous than usual. It breaks down the sand banks making them unstable and when rips form they move water and anyone or thing in it out to sea real quick.

There’s often quite debris in the water that it has picked up from areas that the water wouldn’t normally reach. The beaches also cop a battering from erosion. The picture below is an extreme example. It’s Moore Park Surf Life Saving Club which is just north of Bundaberg.

Not a pretty site but hopefully conditions ease as predicted and something can be done to fix the damage. I’ll be on patrol at Mooloolaba SLSC on Sunday afternoon and hopefully things will have eased but conditions still won’t be great and the sand banks will still be settling down. If you’re heading to the beach this weekend anywhere please swim only between the red and yellow flags!

Til next time over and out

Yeah - that is one crazy photo! it's surprising sometimes seeing just what damage water can do.

and thats why I choose to live near the hills, not the beach! Would have hated to have built a home there only to have it washed away in something like this.
