 | Big ideas start small. Extreme Weather Heroes is a youth led social networking drive to recruit 20 000 young emergency volunteering ASAP.
The number of category five hurricanes in the North Atlantic has tripled, and scientists predict 3 times the number of extreme heat days in Victoria by 2050. Meanwhile, Australia's emergency volunteer base has an average age of around 50.
This network has generated over 30 000 hits since it launched three months ago - with support from the Nova network and Channel 10. Our five Heroes have been blogging non-stop to reach their peers. Soon they will be joined by Liz Cantor from Channel 7 - our sixth Hero!
In Victoria, our 'Build it back green' campaign is sprouting from bushfire affected Flowerdale.
If you like what you find here - spread the word. We are viral, so help us grow! | |
